Golden State: California Prints from the Alan Selsor Collection

Through January 15, 2024

The Philadelphia Museum of Art is pleased to announce a generous gift of California prints from the collection of Alan Selsor. Complementing the museum’s unparalleled collection of American prints from the late 1920s through the 1940s, the lithographs and screenprints presented in this exhibition explore the Golden State’s storied past, social upheavals, and scenic landscapes. The selection of works shown here also celebrate the advent of artistic lithography and screenprinting, techniques that had been used almost exclusively for commercial purposes until artists such as Henrietta Shore, Richard Day, and Anton Refregier tapped into their artistic and creative potential.
