Historic House Programs

Join us for talks and demonstrations on organic and historic gardening practices. Get your hands dirty with a make-and-take planting activity. Tours of the historic house throughout the day.

Saturday, April 22
  • 10:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
    • Urbanstead Farm, from the Francisville neighborhood near the Art Museum, will be selling a variety of plants and sharing tips for successful urban farming.
  • 10:00 am – 3:30 p.m.
    • Make and take a small indoor planter and other flower-related activities.
    • Join Art Museum volunteers and staff in planting Cedar Grove’s early American kitchen garden and learn about the traditional medicinal uses of the plantings.

Sunday, April 23
  • 10:00 am – 3:30 pm
    • Make and take a small indoor planter and other flower-related activities.
  • 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m
    • Organic Pest Control and Prevention for the Garden with Pennsylvania Horticultural Society
    • This workshop will explore cultural, mechanical and biological methods for preventing and controlling pests in the garden as well as how and when to use organically approved sprays. Stop by any time and have your questions answered.

Museum teachers guide children through fun and informative experiences in the galleries followed by hands-on projects in the studios.

Children in Ages 3–5 classes must be accompanied by an adult (who attends free) for the gallery visit portion of the class. All children must be toilet trained. No experience is necessary, and all materials are supplied. Class size is limited. Preregistration is required, and fees are nonrefundable unless the Museum cancels the class.

Please note that tours are weather dependent and will not take place in excessive heat or rain. Moderate walking is involved.

Set at the terminus of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, the views of and from the Philadelphia Museum of Art are justifiably renowned. Join the Park House Guides to tour the East Terrace for an informative and fun hour as they explore the magnificent architecture and outdoor sculpture of the Museum. Discover the building's fascinating history and delight in the wealth of details that adorn this classically inspired building making it a uniquely beautiful part of Philadelphia’s urban landscape.
